Yesterday we reported that Sheriff Billy Garrett Jr. wants to add ten new deputy positions and reorganize his command staff. Garrett is also asking for big pay raises for his staff. He says the pay hikes are necessary because Haywood County’s deputy and jailer pay isn’t competitive. Base pay for a deputy is currently $46,509. ...
